The Wild Orchid

All the numbers swim together and all the shadows settle
Doors forced open shut again-
  A flytrap and a petal.

When all retreat and the moon is level, soft skin starts to shrivel
When dreams made real become less sweet-
The orchid and the metal.

Eyes burn and claws rush in to fill them,
And in the morning after, night falls in love with the light-so clear.
When will I have my eyes...

The Orchid is the largest family of flowering plants with between 21,950 and 26,049 currently accepted species...
